THE AMAZONIAN RAIN FOREST

RECOMMENDATIONS

A Rain Forest adventure is for those interested in nature and environment. The following items are essential: rubber boots, waterproof poncho, torch, water bottle, insect repellent, sun blocks, a penknife, flashlight, extra socks, sneakers, long sleeved T-shirts, long pants, shorts, a sweater, bathing suit, sun hat, binoculars, your own medicines and of course your camera, personal toiletries and documents.

  THE CUYABENO FAUNA RESERVE (6 days any time)

This large area over 600,000 hectares of unexplored and unexploded primary tropical forest, has a very fragile ecosystem and affords us the opportunity to see and live the feeling of the Rain Forest, its humidity, scenery allow us to experience a rhythm accord with nature, living to a sensation of absolute peace.

This area of the Amazonia is home of dolphins, manatees, Cayman, piranhas, anacondas, tapirs, herons, toucans, monkeys, macaws, hoatzins, armadillos, parrots. The sound of millions of insects and hundreds of frogs, make us feel we are truly in the virgin Rain Forest, or primary forest.

Day 1. - Quito/ Lago Agrio/ Cuyabeno - depart 10:30 am flight to Lago Agrio 30 minutes. From Lago Agrio we travel by bus 2 ½ hours into the jungle and transfer to a motor canoe to navigate along channels and rivers for 2 hours surrounded by thick forest vegetation. Lunch on the way to the lodge. Arrival to the Cuyabeno Lodge late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2. - Early birdwatching. After breakfast a trip along the Cuyabeno River followed by a walk through flooded forest. After a picnic lunch, a canoe trip through flooded areas with macrolobium trees covered with abundant epiphyte, herons and hoatzins ending at the Laguna Grande to watch dolphins and manatees.

Day 3. - Early birdwatching. After breakfast a trip along the river followed by a walk down a track on "terra firm" forest to see the bird life: fruit crows, caciques, parrots, guans, toucans and plant life: orchids, bromeliad, palms. After lunch a trip along the channels and lakes and in the evening, a canoe outing to observe Caymans.

Day 4. - After breakfast, a trip along the Cuyabeno river. Then we leave this beautiful area after visiting one of the most beautiful lakes: Canagueno. Return to the bridge and then by bus to Lago Agrio. Dinner and overnight in Lago Agrio.

Day 5. - Breakfast. Transfer to airport for return flight to Quito. Overnight in Quito.

Day 6. - Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to take the international flight or extension program.

A RAIN FOREST ADVENTURE (9 days any time)

This special adventurous program was designed for those people who love nature and adventure. In the Upper Amazon Basin lies the pulse of true adventure and unspoiled paradise. Ramble through waterways and jungles teaming with life, much of it unchanged for the last million years. Beneath a solid canopy of brilliant stars and cradled by an incessant symphony of nature's music, our safer campsites make possible sensations only a few will ever know.

Day 1. - Early morning we will take our flight to Coca. Arrival to Coca and immediate departure by car to the Dayuma river (2 hr. approx.). Here we will take a motor canoe in order to navigate along the Tiputini River. Arrival to our first campsite late in the afternoon. Camp 1. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2. - Early in the morning we'll continue our voyage along the Tiputini river, this time with a paddle canoe, in order to observe the fauna that lives close to the shore of this river. Breakfast on board. In the afternoon we will set our Camp 2 and go piranhas fishing. Dinner. cayman and night birds will be observed.

Day 3. - After breakfast we continue down the Tiputini river until we arrive to the union with the Tivacuno river, where we continue our adventure going up the river. Camp 3. Fishing. Dinner. Night walk by the rain Forest.

Day 4. - After breakfast we will have an adventure walk through the jungle. Lunch. In the afternoon we navigate again the Tivacuno River. Camp 4 near the shore of the river. Fishing and swimming activities. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5. - Breakfast. In the morning we will have a jungle walk. Lunch. In the afternoon we will start going back to the Tiputini River, where we will Camp 5. Dinner and overnight & other nocturnal activities.

Day 6. - Breakfast. In the morning we navigate along the Tiputini River. Lunch. In the afternoon we will have jungle activities such as fishing, swimming or just relax. At night we will have observation trips of Caymans and nocturnal animals and birds. Camp 6

Day 7. - Breakfast. Today we will continue our trip back to the Dayuma River along the Tiputini River. Then we'll take our car back to Coca. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8. - Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to take the flight back to Quito. Overnight in Quito.

Day 9.- Breakfast.- Transfer to the airport to take the international flight or extension program.
